Patio Pallet Table

We saw a pallet table on pinterest and decided we could use a table on back porch. We got a couple pallets from my job's trash.

We added an extra 4ft 2x4 on the bottom pallet to give more area to screw the wheels into and used 2" wood screws to attach it to the board next to it. You can see what I'm talking about in the background of the above picture.

Then using 4" screws we attached the wheels to the bottom pallet.

Next, we took a 4x4 and used a miter saw to cut four 15" pieces. Then attached the 4x4 piece to each corner of the pallet by screwing at a down angle from the side of the 4x4 into the top of the pallet. We used the inside of the 4x4s to have less screws showing.
Finally, we put the other pallet on the top and screwed through the bottom board of the top pallet into the 4x4 corners.

and viola!

We are thinking of painting it black but have gotten lots of suggestions to stain it instead.

LSU Refrigerator

We are both LSU fans. D is little more die hard than I. She happen to meet me the day that I was wearing my one complete LSU outfit. We also had a very common need of a second refrigerator.

On to craigslist we went in search of a cheap frig. We got this refrigerator for $100

Just as you do with anything you buy off craigslist we bleached everything we could take out. Also took the doors off.

Everything Must Be Cleaned!

Then we went to HomeDepot and got LSU purple. They have the exact color btw with their Gidden Team Color match. Before painting we used a mouse sander before we found out that an orbital sander is waaaaaaaaaay better. Definitely go with the orbital sander if you have the option and btw harbor freight has cheap tools for crafty people who aren't looking to sand everything they see.

After sanding we taped off the inside of the fridge to keep it white and rolled the fridge purple. We also spray painted all the hinges black and the inside shelves silver. The brown spray is an anti rust spray for the one that was rusted.

Finally we made the LSU Tiger Eye out of Vinyl which you can buy here. hint... hint...

Our final results:

I also bought D one of these through amazon which is an awesome addition to the freezer door: It's a bottle opener that catches the bottle caps with powerful magnets

Derby After-Party Winner

Our last bout against Capital Defenders I got this great idea to create a prize for the after party winner. Twin City Knockers love a good after party and can be found at an after after party a lot of times.

I found a glass beer mug and etched "TCK vs CD" on one side. On the other side etched "After-Party Winner 3.16.13".

The etching is hard to see in the picture but I also took the picture with an iPhone. This turned out to be quite a hit and I believe will be a new tradition for TCK. Who ended up with the mug at the end of the night?! The penalty box queen Dirty D.Ana!

If you like the idea we decided to sell the mugs in our etsy shop here

I wonder if other leagues have fun traditions like this. We just started doing the MVP tags as well and I'm still up in the air whether I like that but other people on the team seem to like it.

Save Money? Yes I think I will

I may get picked on from time to time about ordering items in bulk off the internet...

Here is why I do it and how I save money.
Quilted Northern, Ultra Plush Double Roll = 48 Rolls

Amazon has 48 rolls of Quilted Northern Ultra Plush - Get it for $21.74
1.) Clip coupon for a dollar off under the pic from link above
2.) Sign up for subscribe & save. Put this at 6 months.
3.) No shipping costs with prime or orders over $25

I also have an Amazon Chase Credit Card which gives me 3% back in rewards which means I'll get 65 cents off the next thing I purchase. Total paid ($21.09)

Hamilton Pool in Austin, Tx

D and I decided to take a trip to Austin because Austin always has something to see or do. Mission this trip: Hamilton Pool

We had seen a friend put up pictures of Hamilton Pool on facebook which looked really cool so we wanted to see it. If you are thinking that you need to see it to we have some tips to pass along!

1.) Wear tennis shoes! You can not drive right up to Hamilton Pool.
Chucks are not a good idea here
or here

2.) Go as soon as they open at 9am if going on a weekend
Notice little kid without parents in background ruining the picture and the serenity
2.) FOR PARENTS - Don't let your kids run around like they are on the school playground! It annoys others.

3.) Go when the weather is cold enough that people would be crazy to swim because this place really gets the tourist crowd going starting about 10:30

4.) It is not as big as it seems. I would say about 100 yards across.
This is the whole pool in which people I guess swim.
5.) It is a .8 mile hike which is pretty flat to see the river that the creek leads to which would be cool to have a picnic where you are interrupted by people every 5 minutes.
Pan of the River

Very Pretty and worth seeing but be prepared to deal with people constantly in your way.

SIDE NOTE: I love the new bump app feature to bump pictures to a computer! Made this blog post so much easier. Go to bu.mp and use your smart phone! It's fun.

Superhero Nursery

I totally want a superhero nursery some day but for now a friend is having a superhero themed nursery. I may have spent a little too much time looking up superhero themed baby stuff.... btw there is a LOT.

A little addition that is SUPER easy (see what I did there) is to grab some comic book covers and frame them.

Blasphemy!! Tear up comic books! No, No... I'm too cheap for that.

1. Go to google images and search for "Captain America Comic Book Cover"
2. Click Search Tools and click Any Size and change it to Large.
3. Find SUPER cool looking cover that doesn't have some kind of watermark on it.
4. Download Picture.
5. Print Picture (In windows use 8x10 and uncheck Fit picture to frame option) The white gives it a matted feel.
6. Put them in some basic frames like these Room Essentials Format Frame - 8.5x11" (Black)

7. Decide where to put them or in our case give them away.

8. ???
9. PROFIT!!

Some other ideas that we are going to totally do are putting up a batman logo and a city scape on the wall.

Beer Pong Automatic Ball Washer

OK back to this Nintendo controller "door"

Who needs a door!? What we really need is a table! We bought some table legs like these

and attached them to the door (now painted like a Nintendo controller).

Well we had this random hole in our table where the door knob was suppose to go. At first we were thinking a single ball washer with spinning balls in the center. How lame is that though when you can make a ball washer for each end!!

That's right we decided to make a beer pong table with automatic beer pong ball washers at each end out of an old door!

Final product:
Now lets take a look at how it works!

This shows the pipe configuration that the ping pong ball travels through to be washed.
Side View

This is where the doorknob used to be on the door and now where the air pressure hose is connected.
Bottom View

Next, is the bucket of water where the water drains and where the fountain pump sends water into the pipes.

Finally, friends reaction to the beer pong table:

If I were to do it again... i would just buy one off amazon.

Acronoyms and Geeks

Geeks LOVE acronoyms! They may not know it but they do. So today a friend posted a picture of their new tattoo of a pelican with a comment that it was a SCA thing.

I promptly messaged D and asked what SCA meant
D: we are smart....we can figure this out
Me: google isnt helpful
D: Self....
Me: sexual compulsives anonymous?
D: Sickle Cell Anemeia
Me: surgical care affiliates
D: Sensor Chip Assembly
Me: Scottsdale Christian Academy
D: ahh you nailed it
D: Sea Cadet Association

Sarah: Society for Creative Anachronism. My nerd-dress-up-history club. The Order of the Pelican is their lifetime service award, basically, and one of the biggest honors they have for people who do cool shit for the organization.

WTF! Out nerded.... smh

Mailbox upgrade

Over the weekend, D and I decided to spruce up the mailbox. I got D to cut down the monkey grass that had started a revolution to take over the yard.

The flag was so sun faded that it was almost the same color as the mailbox. I happen to have some florescent orange spray paint left over from my Halloween costume as a orange cone so florescent orange it is!

The orange looks a little Fisher Price but I like it. We also added the numbers which adds a nice touch!

Nintendo Controller Door

So D and I had this random door left in the shed by the previous owner of our house....

We got a great idea!
Yes! We are going to paint the door just like the control! Exactly what you would have done? I know.

I had recently gotten down the original Nintendo out of the attic so that I could kick D's ass in some Dr. Mario.

Off to Lowe's we went with the Nintendo controller in hand to get the EXACT colors needed in paint.

Step 1 - Paint door base color of remote.

Step 2 - Measure the door and the remote to find the ratio so that we can have the exact dimensions. (what nerds) Then tape off all the areas.

Step 3 - Paint the dark gray center first.

Step 4 - After dark gray has dried. Cover dark gray with newspaper and paint the black.
This is what it looked like after it dried and we took all the tape off.
So we are down to letters and buttons. No big deal right? OMG what a pita

Step fail - We tried making stencils and painting on the letters
and that looked awful so we scrubbed it off before the paint dried.

Step 5 - Print words and buttons on paper in the correct color. Cut them out and mod podge those suckers on!

Step 6 - Clear coat.
As you can see there are extra holes in the corners that have appeared that is because who can stop there!!

To be continued....
